The trailer begins with an inside of a
record player, which highlights the significant of music in the film.
Equilibrium stage in the narrative establishes the main protagonist is a diver
of a get away car. There is a shot reverse shot between the female and male
character. The audience can assume the male is the protagonist (hero), as he is
given camera prevalence; the female is the love interest (trinity), which
follows Propp’s Narrative theory. This appeals to the female audience who
stereotypically enjoy romance.
To build up tension fast pace editing is
used in the car chase scene, which is accompanied by non-diegetic fast/upbeat
music. This exaggerates the scene making it more dramatic and highlights the
dangerous nature of the film, appealing to the male audience.
Although other characters are introduced
they are not given prevalence in comparison to the protagonist, therefore
indicting importance of his charter.
Long shot shows a male character giving
protagonist stack of money leading to disruption phase. “One more job and then
I’m done” this makes the audience question who the protagonist is working for
and why. “I can break you legs and kill everyone you love” the man then
threatens the protagonist showing he has power and control over him, which
suggests he is the antagonist.
The non-diegetic music fades to show the
change in the narrative to recognition stage. Phone conversation between the
protagonist and love interest indicts the protagonist realises the danger posed
to his loved ones so plans to run away “let go West”. It then cuts to fighting scenes and the no
diegetic music intensifies promising big climax. In the trailer there are many
genre indictors such as car chase, car crash, guns and fighting. Trailer ends with montage of different
character repeating Baby, which further suggesting his is the main character.
The trailer leaves audience with enigmas making
the audience intrigued and encouraging them to watch the film.
What his relationship with the antagonist?
Will he be successful run away with his
girlfriend?
What is the consequence of him running
away?
