The trailer begins with panning establishing shot of a neighborhood, which then transitions to shot of a house. Dialogue “my miracle was living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman”. This suggests the narrative consists of a coming of age story from the male protagonist perspective about his crush.

Equilibrium begins with a voiceover of the male protagonist describing Margo Roth Spiegelman childhood best friend- “she was arguably the most gorgeous creature God had ever created.” The dialogue is accompanied by non-diegetic piano music and slow-motion editing of the female protagonist to highlight her beauty and his sincerity.

The long shot shows protagonist and two other male characters walking down the corridor, establishing the High school setting. The Protagonist looks at Margo longingly as he passes her; his facial expression suggests he is lovesick. However, Margo doesn’t notice him indicating to the audience its one-sided love. This appeals to the target audience teenagers/young adults who have likely experienced puppy love.

The non-diegetic music changes from smooth instrumental to fast tempo and upbeat. This indicts the protagonist and his friends are going ahead with their plans to find Margo. It also suggests to the audience that male protagonist may have a chance of starting a romantic relationship with Marg. Therefore appealing to the female audience who are stereotypically into romance. Montage of clips shows male protagonist is demined to find Margo and confess his love “what can I say I am on a mission”.
