Trailer begins with the three film companies who were
involved with this film ie.e. Warner Bros, Metro Goldwyn Mayer and New Line
Cinema. There are high angle shot that pan across to establish the setting. It
cuts to a long shot of a female (main protagonist) at a job centre that’s
desperate to get employment, as her options are limited. The adviser reveals
that Louisa is the protagonist, and then a medium shot reveals her identity.
The audience can visually see that her clothing choices and hairstyle are
unique which may entice viewers, as she’s not a cliché heroine in a romance
film.
A bird eye view shows an expensive castle that’s secluded
from other buildings then it cuts to a medium shot that shows Louisa entering through
large doors. Once she enters the building a mature lady introduces and gives
her instructions for care giving. The viewers
are introduced to male protagonist Will who is physically disabled however he’s
still sarcastically humorous. This subverts the typical stereotypes of disable
people because he seems strong-willed since he tries to be independent by
speaking up of himself. Long shot of Louisa showing her quirky and positive
attitude in order to break the ice between her and Will but his facial
expression implies that he’s reserved and reluctant to open up. This a cliché
beginning for a romance genre as it’s a progress of developing their
relationship.
A medium shot bird eye view shows Louisa sharing her
experiences with Will. The side character is a convention of a romance genre,
they’re unusually the person the main character confines her issues and
problems with. Their role is to show support throughout the story.
The development of Louisa’s and Will’s relationship begins
with her fashion choices e.g. bumble bee tights that stands out, making her a
likeable character on the other hand Will seems to have a negative insight on
live which is understandable.
In the next shot it states that it’s based on best-selling
novel that appeals to fans of the book. It’s in a red background that connotes
romance but also danger thus suggesting the contrast of the story. It cuts to
multiple shots of the two protagonists getting along with each other and going
on dates.
The next scenario is filmed in slow motion to give it a
dramatic effect whilst Louisa is running through the corridor of a hospital. It
hints to the audience that there’s disruption in the narrative of their love
story. When she arrives her body language implies her feeling for him. There’s
a heartwarming non diegetic music that suits their situation “loving can hurt”
especially as he’s doesn’t have a stable life. A voice over reveals that he had
given his parents six-moth time limit before proceeding to euthanasia. Louisa
is determined to change his mind but a voice over contrast her opinion stating
that she can’t changed his decision. Instead she must love them, this narrative
gives the audience a emotional rollercoaster as the ending is only heading one
direction. A montage indicates them spending time together then it cuts to
“live boldly”, “live well” and “just live” which describes her wishes for him
and her desperation for him to live. It finishes off the white title that
stands out from the red background.
