One Day is a drama film about a teenage girl called Belle Francis, who lost her best friend to depression. Since Layla passed away, Belle blames herself for everything she could have done to save her. She suffers from the guilt of not being there for Layla despite that she needed her most. There was a time when they used to be close, shared the entire good and bad situation in lives. However, things start to change as Layla diagnosed with depression. This has made it difficult for others to accept her flaws and insecurities when she was actually hard to be with. The death of Layla was something that caused Belle to realise that all Layla has really asked for is someone to listen to her.
Rose is a close friend of Belle and Layla. When Layla was still alive, they used to hang out together all time. However, after Layla passed away, they have developed a distance in their friendship. Rose recognised how Belle has changed into a completely different person. The smile on Belle's face gradually disappear and fills with undeniable guilt, the lively Belle is no longer presence in her current state.
In this film, Layla represents a person who suffers with depression and decided to end their lives because of that. Sometime she rather keeps her feelings to herself because it's difficult for someone else to understand. On the other hand, Belle represents a person who’s usually able to solve a problem with logical solutions rather with her feelings because that’s seemed to make more sense in her mind. Alternatively, she has missed the point to sense how Layla actually feel. For instance, when Layla told her that something bothered her and she was upset, Belle instantly interrupted her with solutions rather let her finish the story and comforts her with understanding feelings. Rose represents someone who's quietly caring.
