Our poster for “One Day” took inspiration from film posters of the “Cake” and “Les Miserable”, which is shown above. The general design of these film posters shows the main image of protagonist using direct mode of address, the film title is near the bottom and the realise date and credits beneath the title. In our poster, we used the same layout to stay conventional to the genre and also make our poster look professional. For the title “ONE DAY” we used a simple bold white font called Avenir Next Italic. The title and release date is the most important features on a film poster; therefore, is important that it’s visible and eye-catching to the audience. Underneath the title, we placed the billing block, which contains information on the directors and Production Company. We used the font SF movie poster because of it's narrow and thin, similar to the other film posters. Our poster has gloomy and cool tint /colour to it, to suggests the genre as well as, put more emphasise on the main character and the title. I felt the main image on the poster for Cake and Les Miserable was very effective in conveying the genre drama. On our film post, we wanted to have a strong focal image that would draw the audience in the same way as the two posters did. We incorporated the hair covering half of the subject’s face, which indicts that the protagonist is trying to hide her self from reality and is suffering on the inside. Furthermore, the strong force of wind blowing the subjects hair symbolises trouble and stress in her life, which conforms to drama because it’s based on serious and realistic story line. The tag line is placed at the top of the poster, “ I wake up everyday with regrets” we kept it short and sweet because it makes it more memorable. It also acts as an indication because it highlights the main concept of the narrative, informing the audience of what to expect. Like in Les Miserable the tag line used is "fight, dream, hope, love" this pretty much summaries the film to the audience.
Our magazine was mostly inspired by Total films, which is a successful film magazine. After analysing a number of different front covers we were able to identify the general trends in the design and the codes& conventions of a film magazine.The feature most apparent in all film magazines was the master head which is placed on the to the of page for example total films and Empire. Our film magazine Kingdom uses a bold white font and text size 72. It’s important that the master head is the largest text on the page, as it can reflect the audience it caters to. We decided on the name “KINGDOM” because it refers to the whole of society, therefore a large amount of the population could read it. The cover image on our film magazine is of the main character from ONE DAY. It’s conventional that the main actor on the cover is from a movie featured in the magazine e.g. in both of the film magazine above the actors are in character. Also we placed names of actors in our film at the top of the cover in the same way Total films did for James Bond. Furthermore, we included articles that relate to our film on the magazine e.g. “Exclusive” interviews/BTS with the cast and talks of depression (the main topic in our narrative). This is known an a unique selling point (can’t be found anywhere else) , which is effective in marketing because it persuades the audience to buy it. To make our magazine appear more conventional and professional we included: the issue date, barcode, price (small font to not put off any buys), certificates, banner, buzz code, and the magazine website.
The colour scheme for a film magazine differs because visual elements are seen as genre indictors. It’s generic that drama tends to have dark colours and tones to reflect the realness and seriousness of the plot. We used a similar image to the film poster however altered slightly this helps establish a brand identity. This is further strengthen because of the title “one day” featured on the magazine near bottom of the page.
