How did you use titles and how did they
advertise your film in your trailer?
Titles in film trailer refer to words that appear and convey information they can be categorised into credit titles, main titles, end titles, insert titles and roll-up title. In our trailer ‘ONE DAY” we used titles throughout the narrative inserting them between scenes. This helped shape and structure our trailer because it acts as a visual narrator; informs the audience information about the film storyline.
After conducting in-depth research on the genre by analysing other drama film trailers we have noticed the general trend in the order of titles featured. Our trailer consists of titles, film credits (actors, institutions directors etc.) film title, and release date, which are all stationary and in capital letters. This makes it memorable to the audience, as there is no sudden movement to distract their attention. The font we choose for our trailer is very minimalistic and simple because it’s conventional to the genre. The use of the black background and white color text was visible in most of the trailers I evaluated. We implicated this for our titles because the two colours creates a high contrast and also indicates uncertainty, which conforms to the genre drama. Usually, there is some kind of animation applied to the titles e.g. appearing text /zoom in, but we both decided on using a GIF to give the illusion of movement, which has a similar effect.
Another key feature in drama films were movie reviews from the different initiations. This provides the audience with knowledge about our film as well as its success, reaching to a global and wider audience. In addition, our film trailer ends with a unique selling point links to the website and social media account, the target audience can visit and share on their multiplatform device.
As for the text, font and colour, we have kept it consistent across the different media products such as poster and magazine brand identity. Therefore the audience will be able to associate the design with our film.
