How have you made your trailer seem like a trailer?
Camera
We used a range of different camera angles and shot in our trailer such as establishing shot; close up, medium shot, long shot, and extreme close -up. Every camera shot we incorporated in our production servers a purpose in conveying the genre and establishing the narrative. This is important because a trailer is only a teaser, therefore, camera work is essential to keep the audience engaged and interested. The use of an establishing shot and a long shot serves a similar function in a film trailer, which is to show the different settings. It’s conventional for most trailers to begin with an establishing shot of the location because it gives the viewers an idea of where the film will be set. For “ONE DAY” we conformed to this generic convention by using an establishing shot and the transition fade in to signify the equilibrium phase, everyday life of the protagonist e.g. hanging out with friends, categorised in Todorov’s narrative theory. The use of the close-up shot is highly prevalent in drama, to provoke emotions such as empathy from the audience and highlights the facial expressions and movements of the characters. We have given camera prevalence through extended camera shots to show the audience the female protagonist. It's necessary that the main character has some similarities with the target audience, so they can connect and relate to make the film more enjoyable and persuade them to watch. The film equipment tripods are used to keep the camera movements stable and steady, however in drama handheld camera movements are more common to create a gritty and tense atmosphere.
Film production
This refers to the production and distribution company of a film, which is important because viewers may decide if they want to watch a film based solely on this factor- fans of previous work. We used the same production and distribution company as last year and added icons to make it more memorable and form a brand identity. In our final product we placed this near the beginning of the trailer, however, can also be found at the very end.
These titles are a key attribute in making a trailer appear professional and seem like its real. Titles can act as a visual narrator because they give the audience clues on what to expect and also indicates the genre. In drama titles such as “based on true story” is evident in the most title sequence. We used a similar title in our trailer “Based on a true event” to hint the narrative because most drama storyline comes from true events. This is a generic convention for drama because it exhibits real-life situations. Additionally, we featured reviews from the different institution to show our film is successful and worth watching.
Editing

In films and trailers, editing is known as post-production. It combines all of the different elements like camera, Mise- en- scene, sound and undertakes a long process of trial and errors to create and construct the final product. The software we used to create our trailer had a variety of effects and transitions to choose from. In our trailer, we used this to our advantage and really experimented with the different features. For example, we used the pan and zoom tool to add some movement to an extended shot to make it more engaging and dynamic. Another editing technique we used was the “cross dissolve”. We used this transition a few times in our trailer, to signify the passage of time. This can be seen above, the shot dissolves gradually and fades into the next overlapping for a few seconds before it disappears. With the dolly camera motion, it emphasises characters emotion making the scene for dramatic and tense.
Social Media Links
Our trailer ends with links to social media sites such as Twitter hashtags and website URL. This is a relatively new convention of a film trailer, which encourages the audience to find out more about the film. The expansion and popularity of social media can be used to create an effective advertisement campaign, because users are able to share and spread information rapidly about an upcoming film, attracting a global audience.
The release date or caption such as "this summer","coming soon" is conventional in all film trailers because it tells the audience when the film will be available to watch. We featured the release date twice in our trailer one at the very beginning and the other one near the end to make it more memorable for the audience.
