The audience agreed that our trailer was
conventional to the genre. The result to this question tells me our trailer was
successful, although certain elements could have been improved, it’s effective
in conveying the genre.
100% of the participants agreed that our
trailer was suitable and appealed to our target audience. This is reassuring to
know that the audience feels they can relate and emphasise with the characters,
despite the seriousness’s of the storyline.
According to the gratification theory,
categorised by Blumler and Katz, people go to watch films for 5 reasons. We
were curious to know why people would watch our film so added this question.
The results show 45% want to be “Informed and educated” and 33% “want to be entertained”.
I expected this results from the audience due to our film being drama; it
focuses on depression, which is not always openly discussed. Furthermore, for
many people films are main source of entertainment therefore anticipant to be
emotionally moved.
The combination of different elements is
important in a successful trailer, especially sound.45% of the participants
felt the use of sound was strength in our production because it conformed to
the genre. We used conventional music such as orchestral and instrumental to heighten
emotions and build up tension during specific scenes. In addition, the audience felt our camera
work was also a strength in our production.During filming we purposely tried
to include a range of camera movements and shots ,so we could play around with editing to create an effective
trailer.
56% of the participants feel the use of
location in our trailer was a weakness, which comes as a surprise to me because
I personally viewed our choices in location were very conventional to the
genre. Despite this, after re-watching the trailer a number of times, perhaps
we could have had a better outcome from the audience if we opted for more urban
locations.
